Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Health Research (faiHR)

Seminar Series

The faiHR (Forum on Artificial Intelligence in Health Research) is a seminar series that features short public lectures and research updates on the application of AI in health research. This seminar is conducted every month and free for everyone interested in the topic. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis in case there is a limitation on the number of attendees that can be accommodated. You will find on this page the upcoming seminars and their registration links.

If you have a topic, method or research output to share related to the use of AI in health research, we’ll be happy to include you in our line-up of speakers. Please email Dr. Jingky Lozano-Kuehne.

Digital pathology has the potential to revolutionise medical diagnosis and prognostication by allowing automated analysis of tissue images. This presentation will explore how digital pathology coupled with artificial intelligence can be used to analyse digitised images of melanoma tumours, classifying patients into subgroups based on immune gene expression signatures.

Speaker: Lucy Godson (National Pathology Imaging Co-operative, NHS)
Date & Time: Date & Time: 10 April 2024 (Wednesday, 12:15 – 13:00 (London time)
Venue: Online (via Zoom); Venue opens at 12:00 PM (London time) to allow attendees to test their online connection.
Interested to attend? If you are in the AIHR mailing list, you will receive an invitation to the event via the mailing list.  If you are not in our mailing list, please complete this form or scan the QR code to register to the event.

Medical imaging has been increasingly used in clinical practice and health research. However, imaging data is often viewed complex and challenging to manage. Some of the new innovations in medical imaging can be attributed to the application of Artificial Intelligence in processing image data. This session presents how automation simplifies the image management process to help researchers get better data output faster.

Speaker: Sarah Westall (Medidata, UK)
Date & Time: Date & Time: 13 March 2024 (Wednesday, 12:15 – 13:00 (London time)
Venue: Online (via Zoom)

Machine learning models can be used to support recruitment and participant selection in research studies. This presentation will discuss how machine learning-supported recruitment resulted in enriched selection of progressive patients in the IMI-APPROACH knee osteoarthritis prospective study.

Speaker: Prof. Jaume Bacardit (Newcastle University, UK)
Date & Time: 10 January 2024 (Wednesday, 12:15 – 13:00 (London time)
Venue: Online (via Zoom)

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been used in a wide range of fields including in clinical trials. However, its application in clinical trials is still limited. This talk presents an overview of the application of AI in clinical trials and the opportunities that can be explored from pre-clinical studies to the analysis phase of clinical trials. The presentation also includes information on an available PhD studentship in this field.

Speaker: Dr. Jingky Lozano-Kuehne (Newcastle University, UK)
Date & Time: 13 December 2023 (Wednesday, 12:15 – 13:00 GMT)
Venue: Online (via Zoom)
